BSI - an Environmental Management System provides a framework for managing environmental responsibilities so they become more efficient and more integrated into overall business operations. Environmental Management Systems are based on standards, which specify a process of achieving continuously improved environmental performance and compliance with legislation. ISO 14001 is an international standard that specifies a process for controlling and improving a company's environmental performance. ISO 14001 consists of:

  • General requirements
  • Environmental policy
  • Planning
  • Implementation and operation
  • Checking and corrective action
  • Management review

This means you:

  • Identify elements of your business that impact on the environment and gain access to the relevant environmental legislation.
  • Produce objectives for improvement and a management program to achieve them, with regular reviews for continual improvement.

BSI can then periodically assess the system and, if compliant, register your company or site to ISO 14001.

Code of Good Practice - food safety, traceability, environmental care and animal welfare are, together with product quality and consistency, key drivers in the modern food chain. Food Certification (Scotland) Ltd (FCS), operating on a not for profit basis, is the independent body, committed to helping primary producers and processors deliver these assurances to consumers through the verification of product certification schemes for fishery, food, agricultural and environmental products.

One of the first operators in the food assurance field, FCS works actively with primary producers and food processors who not only conform to but exceed legal compliance with the Food Safety Act to produce fresh and processed food products to strict production and manufacturing protocols. The additional quality, safety, environmental and traceability guarantees which certification provides, enhances retailer and consumer confidence and allows them to meet ever stricter consumer demands and compete effectively in today’s demanding marketplace.
